Tears

This week I have seen clients who were experiencing deep pain and in the course of our session they allowed themselves to cry. For some it was simple emotional tears but for others it was tears of deep grief held within.

I want to talk about it because often times people feel embarrassed to cry, especially men, they have associated crying with a sense of weakness. In reality tears can be a great relief from the pain we have suppressed and buried deep inside ourselves. Those pains are poisoning our body and can make it sick, so instead of protecting yourself from experiencing them and preventing them to surface, release them and allow tears to wash them away. It is a natural healing method we all have access to.

I found those two quotes that I think can illustrate the beauty and benefit of tears.

–          “When the shell of my heart breaks open, tears shall pour forth and they shall be called the pearls of god”  –Rumi, 13th century poet

–          “There is sacredness in tears. They are not the mark of weakness, but of power. They speak more eloquently than ten thousand tongues. They are messengers of overwhelming grief…and unspeakable LOVE”  – Washington Irving.
